Carol Rama
Carol Rama, born Olga Carolina Rama (Turin, 17 April 1918 – Turin, 24 September 2015), was an Italian artist.
Carol Rama began painting subjects with simplified physiognomy as a self-taught artist in the 1930s. These works reflect the anxieties and fantasies of a young woman who had to deal with traumatic aspects of life.
She then moved closer to the abstract art of the MAC – Movimento Arte Concreta (Concrete Art Movement). Carol Rama created her Bricolage (as defined by her friend Edoardo Sanguineti), compositions of informal marks and stains to which she added glass eyes, teeth, nails and other materials, gluing them onto the canvas.
She only received widespread public recognition in 2003, when she was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 50th Venice Biennale.
